yeah! I just book a 3 days, OW course (PADI) for ~$250, that inludes 4 REAL boat dives in Phuket:

It's a good deal for me since it includes everything: equipment, book, video, PADI certification, breakfast, lunches, transportation from hotel to classes/ beaches, and especially the 4 boat dive trips!! I can even pick the location for my dives! : two at the Phi Phi island (featured in the movie 'Beach') and two dives at Racha Yai island - with lots of hard corals! I'm so excited about this trip :)

Quoc,

That's very cool. I stayed for a week on Phi Phi Island a about 5 years ago and did a lot of diving. It's amazing to dive over there and see all of the pacific reef creatures we keep in our tanks!

Have a great time, and resist the temptation to bring back frags - you'll be very tempted!

Well Phuk thats a good deal. .
Nick, I didn't realize that you can pronounce Phuket in different ways: Phuk - e(i)t or Phu - ket - properly depdending on how the vacation turns out :D

I'll try to take a lot of pics! yeah, after I saw some pics about those coral sites in those islands, i was really temped to think about finding ways to bring some of the sps frags back or try to find some lfs to buy some corals there :D but i have to fly to Vietnam after Thailan, so that's impossible!

I love the pic of staghorn forest at the Coral Island (in the link below):

and check out the huge pink poccillora colonies and the anemones at the Anemone Reef site:

I just got the book and video from a friend nearby to my house today. Thanks for checking for me. Do you have the interactive CD rom? The instructor told me those CDs will be helpful since you can practice on answering some test questions, etc..? Hey, I may need your help on the tank while i'm away for the whole month :) Hope it's not going to crash! :) I'll call you later.

i think its funny that you guys call it open water....its wierd because when i certified in green bay, there was either open water, or ice diving. And ice diving gave a new meaning to the words "open water"

even though it was 6 years ago that i certified now..(im 18, requirement was 12) i remember very well that the water temp was 38*....if you dont know what that feels like fill your tub up with cold water, put about 20 lbs of ice in there and hop in.....its great stuff....
