Howdy everyone.

Took a trip to Texas city on Sun for a critter hunt. I was unable to make the last trip due to weather issues...should have braved it. I'm planning on going to the next collection trip at the end of the month but I don't know if I can wait until then. I'm simply too excited :D

I didn't find much except for pods and hermits. I'm guessing those hermits aren't reef safe but I but a few in my tank anyway. I mainly searched the rocks on both sides along the main road. I also headed down the skyline road aways down to a beach area with a jetty and little marshy area.

I'm planning on going again next Sat and would love to know of some places to look. I'm mainly after blennies, gobies, and porcelin crabs.

AFter over an hour of driving, half of it in traffic, I was all geared up and ready to catch some creatures. Even though my girlfriend and I did not catch what we were looking for, we still had a great time.

Those hermits are reef safe so long as you don't want any fish or inverts in your tank. Sorry couldn't resist myself :D . I don't know any places in Texas City just Galveston.

Where are the good spots in Galveston? I'd be more than will to take a jaunt there as well as Texas City

I figured those hermits are bad news...Looks like im going to have to pull them out. Not much is free in this hobby :(

If anyone wants to meet me in Galveston/Texas city I will be in that area all day on Sat..unless I can't find any info on good collection area's :D

Hopefully someone will chime in with some good spots. If not, I don't think I'll be driving over an hour to wander around Texas city (or galveston for that matter) trying not to pay any attention to what obviously looks like an unmarked grave...

Best quote of last Sundays trip, "Wow look at that bone. Doesnt that look like a femur?"

On another note....I seemed to be one of the few English speaking people running around. I couldn't believe the number of spanish speaking folks fishing for crabs. The fact that anyone would eat anything coming out of that water gives me a stomach ache. Anyone know spanish for "turds in water"?

When we went two Saturdays ago, we first started near the pavilion catching Ghost shrimp on the rocks at the shoreline and in the grass. Then we collected our snails on the granite rocks of the dike itself. The Porcellain crabs are found by picking up rocks setting them on the dike and seeing what runs out. We really never cover much territory just about the first 100 yards on the Galveston Bay side of the dike.

In Galveston my friends and I go to the jetties off of seawall, but tend to go late at nigh, 11pm on, during the day we go to east beach. on the east most side of the beach there is a little jeety like structure and we use a dip net off of there for small fish and grass shrimp.
