Work has me traveling quite often lately and I am not able to devote the time I think I need to my tank. My wife can keep up with it but with 3 kids it gets a little hectic at times. I was thinking about finding a home for all my coral and fish but leave the live rock in the tank. I would like to also clean out the fuge and remove it and the skimmer from the system. Would I be able to just do water changes after pulling out all the coral and fish and just run the tank with good circlulation and lights? Is my DSB going to give me problems without the fuge and skimmer? FYI the tank is about 8 months old now and is a 55g. Or should I just shut it all down sell the livestock and rocks and start over later.

Chris,

Have you thought about having someone "help" keep up your tank? Maybe someone local for a nominal fee? Just suggestions (phishing for free-lance work...).

If you wanted to strip the tank, then just run rocks, skimmer, and low lights you would have a live rock tank (just like the fish stores!) (i.e .that should work)

Shutting it down

Hate to hear that you may have to shutdown your tank for a while. If you do, keep me in mind for that colt coral you have.

Sorry to hear you may be leaving, but I understand, I recently had to make the same choice. The rate at which people are shutting down tanks is really alarming. if we continue to lose people at the current rate the club will bleed to death :-(

You could put in a couple fish to keep the tank cycled like a damsel that you don't have to feed for a while and can tolerate the most amazing conditions.

Yea,

Just keep the fish & the skimmer, & do water changes when you can. My FOWLR is a snap - it requires is me feeding it, oh wait I don't even do that - I bought an auto feeder. OK, I just look at it.

Does anyone have a used skimmer that hangs on the back of the tank they want to part with? Since I am going to pull the fuge out of the loop my skimmer will be useless since there is no way for it to push the water all the way up to the tank.

What time frame are you looking at? I might be selling my CPR bak pak II in about 4-6 weeks after my cycle is done (I want to be sure my TF 110A works good enough on its own first).
