Occasionally I will see my spaghetti worms floating around in the current, as if they had been dislodged and are trying to find a holdfast. Some of them are on top of rocks, just hanging out there. Don't they know they are supposed to be in the sand or IN the rocks :?

Well, most of them ARE in the sand and IN the rocks, but I have a few lately that are just hanging out on top or are floating around. I have wondered if maybe they are getting crowded in my tank and are looking for their own niche.

Here is an important question:
Does it really matter?
Microfauna will increase and decrease their populations depending on the food available. My tank is in constant cycles between pods, mysis, stars ect. One population explodes another implodes. It doesn't matter to me as long as my fish are healthy, my corals are growing, and my tank is algae free.

No, I didn't post because I was concerned or that it mattered one way or another. I have plenty of spaghetti worms to go around. I was just curious if anyone had noticed this "behavior" and/or had an explanation for it. Curious minds, ya know.......

Karen you know you were concerned that you might lose one of your ultra precious worms and that is why you posted. :)

I have never looked closely enough to see if they ever blow around though.

Actually I have had mine do the same thing, sometimes they are in the sand bed or on top of the rock work.

Actually, I was wondering if I had too many :D But my worms ARE precious and special, and they do a bang-up job of keeping the substrate free of debris :)
