Jqsquared thanks for the advice. I think I actually only have about 65lbs of LR but most of that weight is from the large Tonga branches that aren't as porous as the pukani. I haven't checked phosphate numbers since I started cycling them. I probably should though. I have a big tub of gfo I bought awhile back but not using.

Well given the tank is 39" tall I was able to sit under it and run my cabinet LED light strip quite easily aside from the fact the 3M sticky back doesn't stick. I used a few sticks of super glue to ensure the lights stayed [emoji106]

Started some PVC cementing as well so some progress tonight on the plumbing.

Oh my 2 fish in QT are doing very well with white specks on the Naso completely gone after a week. It and the baby yellow belly blue tang are eating like pigs.

Ammonia seems to be stable and in the yellow according to Seachem Ammonia Alert so I may increase my days of water changes from every 2 days to 4. Looks like my seeded sponges from my nano and bio-spira are doing their jobs.

This is my 1st time using Copper but so far it's been a good experience.

I've read the whole post from Humblefish on QT off of R2R and it's been quite helpful thought I'm not following his steps.

Night shot of the stand with the lights before calling it a night.

Seams are sloppy and not straight. There's lines of bubbles right smack in front side of the tank but luckily it's in near the Eurobrace so only cosmetic

Better pic of one of the issues

This might be the first time i have heard anything remotely negative about Planet. None the less, I know how you feel. I wonder if talking with them about it would result in anything different?

I do prefer tall stands so I think you lucked out in that regard. LED strips look good, told myself I would do something like that - still using the camera phone light/fuge lighting haha.

Are you using any kind of biostart product in the QT? I assume that was a new system as well? Ammonia issues?

I think for the money paid...planet tanks are great. The build quality on every tank I've seen isn't bad at all. It's not Reef Savvy, but it's also not a 1 year wait, $5,000, and $2,000 shipping either.

If you're looking for perfection, you gotta pay for it. Something I'm not willing to do.

I disagree. If they cannot build the stand the height that was ordered it is simply unacceptable. He simply did not get what he paid for.
The lack of quality build is another issue but the manufacturer could have at a minimal built stand and drilled holes to the agreed height and size. If they were not standard heighths and sizes he should have been advised and well aware before delivery.
This is the very reason I rarely buy anything custom built I don't see in advance.

Reefaholic did you not see the picture of the front of my tank seam that looks like a 2 inch whisker shaped air bubble that got stuck in it? That's only one of the few.

It does suck to not get what was paid for but it's not worth it for me to deal with it because of time and inconvenience at this point.

I hope what's in the tank will shift everyone's focus away from the defects.

Oh and the paint job on the stand was also disappointing. Maybe they used only enough paint for a 36" stand instead of a 39" since they didn't seem to complete the painting lol. They missed spots inside the stand and the coat seems thin because I can see thru to the wood in some areas.

I would paint the inside again myself to moisture proof but I don't want fumes in the house with the kids. There's no way I can get the stand outside to do any work on it.

Yes I used bio-spira to seed my sponges after I soaked them in my nano for a couple months just in case. I didn't see any ammonia issues in the QT

Well a pretty productive day. Took the kids to the park, did some shopping with the family at Costco and finished up the plumbing from the overflow to the sump.

I pulled out my budget mini-table saw I got on sale around Xmas.

Not pro equipment nor am I a pro plumber by any means. It probably took me longer than it should've. It didn't come out perfect but it's not bad neither. Wish I could've found grey reducers and blue elbows.

I'll start on the blue and grey return plumbing once my bulkheads come in. I can't believe the 2 shops i stopped at didn't have them so I had to order online.

Mapping out the plumbing it will hopefully work out like the planning.

Oh I forgot to mention I had the QT running about a week prior to adding the fish.

That has nothing to do with build quality of the tanks.

I didn't think it looked all that bad. That can be an eye sore if it's as big as you say. I can't really tell from the pic. Honestly...I think after you get some coral and fish in the tank it will not be that noticeable. :mwave:

Everything is looking great. I want to do scheduled 80 plumbing for the grey look on my new system. Maybe I'll get some colored pvc from BRS. Yours looks good against that black background.
