Looking at these on BRS blockbuster sales. Not overly convinced I should upgrade but willing to take some advice.

Current setup is a 125g with roughly an additional 30-40g of sump and fuge space. Tank has been up 6 weeks. Bio load consists of a scopas tang, blue tang, magnificent foxface, scribbled rabbit, assortment of chromis, clowns ect. Light coral load mostly LPS.

Current skimmer was the latest version of the bubble magus nac6 from a previous setup. The skimmate it produces is more than it ever did with a heavy stocked 60g. Finally getting the dark, coffee thick like syrup. I think this is great although having to dump the cup every 2 days or so and clean it.

This is kind of where my thought came into my head, love the production of this little skimmer but in 6 months with more bio load and more of an established tank will I be left behind in my skimmate? Causing issues with DOC buildup and never being optimal on skimming?

If the consensus is yes go ahead and upgrade to something larger....then I have been looking at the vertex 150 & 180i. I know the 180 is newer and has an internal pump (only $10 more today) than the 150.

Thoughts!?

Thanks,

Rob

I have the 150 on a 75 gallon on a medium stocked tank and it pulls some good skimmate I've got to clean every 4 to 5 days. I love it really well built and easy to clean, especially the collection cup. Only thing I don't like is the pump is on the side and takes up alot of room in my sump. I'd go with the 180, it has the pump internal and rated for larger so you can tune it down. And at that price is worth it.
