I was told that VHO is better than PC lighting by a friend and I was wondering what everyone thought. What kind would I need for a 55Gal, where can I get it, and how much will it cost? Thanks.

As a VHO convert from PC, I can tell you I'll never go back to PC, although many people love it.
You can search on here by my username and search term 'VHO' for all the info on the cheapest place I found to order it, why I chose PFO over IceCap and ARO, etc.

You should get a green chromis instead of VHO lighting, they are mega cool.

I have read through several past posts and I am wondering which is the most energy efficient with the highest output, VHO or T-5? My purpose is to get a good all around type bulb setup. For instance I could grow some of the more demanding corals (acros) as well as everything else because I am not sure how hooked I'm going to get 
. I am decided that I will not go the halide route though, because energy expenses are too high.
BTW: Does anyone know where to get canopy diy plans for a 55 gal?

Personally, if you are going to grow acros and such, I would think that VHO would be your best bet.

we just built a canopy for my moms 55gal you can come look at it, might even still have the plans for it, I will chek

I went from PC to VHO to MH. I really like VHO coloration and the way it makes corals flouresce. I personally would only use PC under space limited areas such as my nano-cube and maybe my sump.

dejavu also built his own canopy for his 55g tank and it looks pretty nice. you might want to pm him and have him help you for a frag or something
