Im mixing red sea salt for the first time. Its been mixing for about 2hrs. Iv got all sps coral in a 180g. Im very paranoid of a ALK swing, Tank is 8.5, Im still dialing it in, mixing water is 11. Is that to big of a swing to do the water change now or will it be ok? If it is, what do you suggest to bring the mixing water alk down or will it come down naturally with a couple more hrs of mixing?

Let it cycle overnight and do you WC tomorrow.
I always let my saltwater cycle for about 5 days before I do a WC.

I had to do an emergency water change about 2 weeks ago and it mixed for 8 hrs but that was only for emergency. Otherwise I let it mix for 24 hrs and if I am not in a rush then it will be mixing for at least a good week. There is another saltmix that Cat uses and I will be switching over to it because you are suppose to be able to use it instantly and after my ordeal I do not want to go through that again. Mine usually ends up around 10 after 24 hours. So this mix is 1.5 to 2 more dkh than your tank. But how much water are you changing? 1 gallon, 5 gallons, 100 gallons? That is what is going to tell you what you need to do... 5 gallons of 11dkh water is not going to do to much to 175 gallons of 8.5 dkh water. 100 gallons is going to bump the dkh up some.
