Hi,
I am planing on moving to the Houston area within the month and will be moving to a second story apartment. I was just wondering on the weight limit? How big of an aquarium can I have without the floor falling from under me?

Thanks

When I discussed this with other people on Reef Central. The popular opinion is that weight is not as much an issue as flooding your neighbors. You can probally be fine with a 100G as long as the walls that it is on is a load supporting or exterior wall. That being said I chose a down stairs apartment so I wouldn't have to worry or lug tanks, equipment, and water upstairs.

I would suggest talking to the apartment complex. That would be your best bet.

And welcom to MARSH.

Hehe, been there done that. Left an RO unit on filling a 5 gallon jug from 6pm to 10 am. Needless to say, the jug didn't take 16 hours to fill.

Most apartment complexes are now banning tanks because of the liability. The ones that do allow you to keep one will probably make you leave a large "Pet" deposit. And that includes downstairs apartments.

On a related note, if possible try to find a house that you can lease to own. That way you are not throwing away your money. I understand that it can be hard to afford, but when you consider the amount that you must pay for a nice apartment another couple hunderd could make a house payment. IMO.

Good luck and an early welcome to H town.
