Vinegar eats it off pretty quick. Just let it soak full strength for a couple of hours.

Vinegar or a weak solution of HCl will work. You probably have a better shot with vinegar though.

at least vinegar wont eat a hole in YOU while you are cleaning, mix the HCL wrong and you could have a probelm -- been there -- done that.

Yeah I know how that goes all my jeans have some sort of acid stain or another but hey at least it isn't HF or HI right? :)

I usually only have to soak a coraline encrusted powerhead about an hour in a 50/50 vinegar solution. Vinegar, I tell you, is a great thing. So useful for so many things.
