I just bought these off of ebay and wondered what you guys thought of them:

SALT SALINITY REFRACTOMETER WITH ATC FOR AQUARIUM

Thanks

how much did you pay for them? Was it two items in a single auction? There's a link on RC's sponsors page to liveaquaria.com (or to dr fosters and smith) and a discount on refractometers. i think it was $35 or $40.

No it was not a single auction, they were both about 45 with shipping. Impulse buy.

If they're in good shape I'd say it's a good investment. It'll take alot of the guess work out of testing for those two params, and they'll be a whole lot easier to use than test kits.

Well they are supposed to be brand new items so hopefully everything will be cool.

hmm.. if new, that's about right. i used to keep an eye out for a pH meter but they kept selling for more than for what I had hoped. nice one!

I have no idea what to do with this PH meter. I read the instructions a few times and kinda went huh? Lost the instructions, e-mailed the guy who sold it to me, but he was too lazy to help me out but referred me to someone else. I guess I will have to call and figure out how to use it. The calibration is the part I am confused about. It looks as though it was already calibrated with a checked off card, so I have to find out what exactly I need to do. Might take it to Neptunes. The new owner is really cool about testing out your stuff and making sure it works.

I just ordered some buffer solution in 4,7 and 10 ph. These are used to calibrate the unit so that when it is in your tank you can be assured of an accurate reading. They may have calibrated it but you have no way of verifying that unless you have solution with a known ph. Make sense?

So are you saying I have to recalibrate it using those 2 formulas? If that is the case than it is simple. For some reason I thought everything was done when I got it.
