Recently there has been a burst of coraline growth in my tank and all my dead rock is growing coraline on it and I am going through a green algea bloom. Have the green algea under control with water changes and snails (most of whom have died only have two now out of 10 in two weeks). My blue tang has been munching on it too.

Today I noticed these reddish spots on my live rock, it appears to be velvety looking and definitely darket than the rock, although it appears very prominent in the pics.

I also have a couple places with black hairy stuff growing

If it is bad stuff how do I remove it?
Thanks in advance.

On the red stuff, it could be a red slime algae or cyanobacteria like Narny said. If it comes off the rocks easily, that is probably it. I have some in my tank, and I usually just use a piece of airline tubing to suck it out into another bucket. If it is attached to the rocks pretty well, it might be red coraline, but since you mentioned a velvety texture, most likely cyano. I have some small diameter acrylic tubing I put into the end of the airline to make it easier to handle. I'll send you a piece if I can find the extra I have.

Tank is now going through no light for three days. Hopefully it should clear up if it cyano.
