Thought I would check to see if anyone here knows enough about TV's to give me some info on the problem with mine. TV is a Samsung 55" LCD, maybe 3 or 4 years old. It started getting vertical lines on the screen about a month ago. Sometimes mostly red, now in many colors. For a few weeks it was intermittent, but now it seems to be all the time and is much worse. I paid nearly $2k for this thing a few years ago, but know they are now going for almost half that amount. Don't want to waste a bunch of money having it fixed if it isn't worth it.

Anyone know what causes the lines? Fixable?

Any advice is appreciated.

Can you get me the model number please?

Additionally, what is connected to the TV for devices (DVD, cable box, etc.), and do you have the same issue regardless of which Device you're watching?
If you press MENU on the TV when the problem is occurring, does the MENU display OVER the lines or behind them?

Is this a LED or Plasma?
Just replace the motherboard in the back, between $90 and $200 depends on Model.

It's an LCD TV. I have a Comcast DVR connected via HDMI, DVD player and XBox, all separate HDMI, all with the same problems. The TV menu shows behind the lines as well, leading me to think it's the display itself. After some google searching, it looks like the most likely culprit is the T-Con board, which connects to the screen itself. I may check the connectors and write down the board info to see about replacing it.

Update - took apart the TV when I came home to write down the part number of timing control and main boards. Had to disconnect a few ribbon cables to get to T-Con board, and when I put it back together the screen was blank! Arrggh. I was worried about one of the ribbon cable connections that I had trouble with, so took it all back apart again (there's like 25 screws that hold the back panel on), re-checked all cable connections, put it all back together again, and now we are at about 99% performance. Still slight noise on the screen, but you have to look pretty close to notice it. I have the T-Con board part # ($30) and cable part number in case I decide to go that route.

For now, I'm calling it good. Wife and kids think I'm superman or something for fixing the TV :high5:
