I picked up a green hydnophora from Neptunes (gift cert) a few weeks back and now it seems the tips are starting to die... its in med to high flow high light (250 watt 14k ham). Alk and CA are good... Nitrates are high ofcourse.. this is my tank we are talking about here.

You know i am bad about getting my water tested but usually when i do things turn out ok, salinaty is at 1.024, temp 74-78, i have them near the bottom pretty much tucked into my sand bed, and mild flow, and the hydnophora seem to do well... anyways i only have a 40G tank with PC lighting... have you tried to target feed them with cyclop-eez or something of that nature? if not try that... since i started target feeding my tank has been doing a lot better. good luck.

Move it down Nick...start low...remember how crappy Neptune's lighting is.

My green hydnophora is under 175w 6500k at top of tank and has tripled in size since I have got it(about 12" across and at least 6" tall now with multiple layers). Lots of water current.

I got a frag from Rick and I placed mine high under strong flow but only PC lighting and he's doing great.

How high are the nitrates (NO3-)?
Where did you place it?
Is it getting better yet?
Neptunes lights are 250w HQI 2000K - is your metal halide single-ended or double-ended?

Just trying to get more information.

Could you list your readings on Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates? I think it could help identify the problem.

you might try a water change - to bring the nitrates down.

did the tips start dying before or after you moved the coral up?

Is it getting worse?

sorry for all the questions
