Anyone here have your tank set up on a wood or engineered wood floor?

I have two places that I can place a future tank once I finish my reading and research but I am a little concerns about the likelyhood of messing up the wood floor from spills or leaks, etc. Just curious what other may be doing to prevent issues and if it is really that big of a deal aside from being careful. I am considering a rug under the tank, but at the same time that will trap water against the wood if it's a decent size spill. Would like to learn from others lessons if possible instead of starting fresh on an expensive lesson.

Thanks

I would make sure there is room under the stand so you can dry out the floor IF you spill water. If you have the bottom of the stand flush against the floor, water will still seep under the stand, it will just be harder for it to evaporate or be sucked up. We have laminate floors and I have my stand mounted on about 8 plastic disc sliders I got from Home Depot. They raise the stand up about 3/16" and the times I've spilled water, I've been able to use some thin towels shoved under the stand to pull out the water. And if it is really bad, you could use a hair dryer to speed up the evaporation.

Oh, and I always try to have a couple of towels around the tank to protect the floor from drips. A few other guys use rugs around the tank, that way if they get them wet, they can pull them up easily. But not under the tank at all.

Good luck on it!

Hi, bdubb.
We have a laminate floor and my stand sits directly on the floor. I've had a couple of significant spills and have not seen any damage to the floor. When I tore down the tank post Ike, I was very pleasantly surprised to see no damage to the floor from tank water. Mine's a 140 and it's so heavy that I don't think spilled water can get too far under there.

good luck,
Steve
