Does anyone know why xenia can be all out floating in the stream and the next thing you know its all closed up and in a ball? Just curious. Thanks

i dunno, but my suggestion is dont move it...

Mine had a stalk attach to my open brain.. I moved the rock with 4 stalks on it... 1 week later, i threw it in the trash.. I guess by just moving the xenia from top to middle, it didnt like it very much.. Also seemed to pulse with a decent flow coming to it..

Yeah, they always come back out on mine too. Its when they are closed for days is when I start to worry. Thanks for the responses.

Hmmmm.......if they stay closed for several days, they could be unhappy about something. Are you adding any iodine to the water? I do occasionally put supplements of that in also for my shrimp, and the xenia benefits from it. Also, how's your pH? And what other corals do you have in the tank? Some corals will irritate the xenia, namely some of the leathers. I've mostly avoided leathers for that reason.

I added a little Iodine last night, all I have are star polyps and they are way away from the stalk of xenia. I want a xenia, star polyp tank so if anyone has anything they want to give or sell for $5.00 let me know and I can help you out. As of now, everything is doing great in my tank which is good news for the xenia as they are so darn picky.

The type I have are very hardy and prolific for me, so remind me when I get ready to give away some more, and I'll give you some of mine to see how it does.

Actually I am running carbon. I started off with a canister filter thinking I just wanted some caluerpa and a pair of clowns since I was reefed-out. Then I just had to get back into it again and brought the sump, protein skimmer etc. So now I have 2 filtration units on it. I am pretty dissapointed cause reefalot gave me some of his xenia which died on me. Dont know why. I went and bought some at a LFS and it is really doing good. Strange how xenia is. I am torn between buying 4 VHOs in Nov or going to metal halide- only 1 and VHOs which the wife would never let me as I think everything would spread much better. Oh it would be nice to have money.
