Woooohoooo so excited upgraded to 500/g from the previous 200/g Elos.

So finally bought a house in pearland since wife works in the medical center now her commute is only 6 miles.


tank is 96X48X25, 1" thick acrylic, overall the acrylic is in great shape but will definitely give it a great buff as I want my tank shiny, seems are perfect all around the tank. It will be set up as a peninsula and I will cover the far outer overflow with black paint.

Previously it was a shark tank so the overflow boxes are angled which takes less real estate in the tank.

The sump is insane...I have never seen a trigger sump this big, 4.5 ft X 3.5 ft x 2 ft

By the way the room where the tank is 14 X 14 so more than enough space to see tank from 3 sides and the big plus is closet right by the tank.

The water change will be very simple-The pool waste water line is right by the window so I will plumb the sump to the waste water line for quick water changes.

Thanks Fish keeper.

So need some ideas:

What if I plumb one overflow to a sump in the closet which will hold a skimmer and the far left overflow to the sump below. My main goal is not to build the stand too tall so tank is nice at eye level.

My concern is the humidity level in the closet even though the closet door is staying open at all times.

Can testify to humidity being a problem. A humidifier puts out heat and a exhaust sucks out cool air. I use a combo.
the humidifier helps heat the room in the winter and exhaust only comes on when very hot in the summer. Anyway congrats

Hey nice tank I love and I wish I could convince my parents to get me even just a 360. Lol! How far is the closet to the tank? How many feet? What is the height of the stand? Is there enough room for you to get in there and fix or change some thing? With the closet I would run one of those black stock tanks, from Tractor supply. And is that water going to be plumbed to the sump or back to the tank? I would say figure out the plumbing you will need, if you already have plans for the stand wait till you figured out the plumbing make adjustments to the stand. And you should be good to go. And if you are iffy about something post it on the thread and bounce the idea back with a few people! I'm practically always on so if you need to bounce an idea off of someone I can help you out!

Exhaust is a good idea but I think the central ac will take care of the humidity-

Will have to see-my goal is to have nothing else in the room except the tank and a nice sitting area

Nice John! Put a fan inside closet to keep air circulated.

Ur gonna want a tall stand.makes working and adding stuff much easier. Mine is 42" tall and total height of tank is at perfect eye level.

You would be surprised how hot it can get in a closet with equipment running. Plus the air circulation would keep the humidity down. In a small space you would be surprised how the humidity level can rise.

Hopefully the AC will take care of the humidity and will try to install an exhaust to run just a few hours a day when the main lights are on. Still debating if I should do LEDs or T5s or a combo. At this point cost is really not the issue but at the same time don't want to break the bank. Like you said I will be a "poor man" by the time I'm done with this monster.

Thanks Lucas. I'm very impressed with the amount of knowledge you have about reefing...that's awesome!!!! The closet wall is attached to the short side of the tank. In the picture above you can actually see the closet door. I uploaded better resolution pictures so much easier to see now. :)

The closet will hold minimal equipment. I will have the large trigger sump under the tank which will hold majority of the equipment. The closet will hold 2 65 gallon water totes (salt/rodi) for quick water changes, the totes will be setting on shelve so I can utilize the space below. Also, all my electronics such as APEX controller/calcium reactor components will be in the closet away from the salt water.

Sure-the sump will be under the tank. The monster is so big everything will fit in there...hahaha. I changed my mind I don't think I'm putting anything wet in the closet just the electronics and my 2 auto water change totes which will have an enclosed tops.

Thanks Wes! Yes will run some exhaust in the closet and to run the exhaust outside it's only half a foot away. Definitely taking your advise regarding the height of the stand. I'm going with the 42" stand.

Question for you...is your tank sitting on tile or wood floors?
