Almost a year ago after our grid failed, Gov. Abbott all but guaranteed no more rolling blackouts. Looks like there will indeed be no more rolling blacks. They just call them “load shed events” now. You can’t make this up haha!

Y’all have your generators ready? Even if we don’t take the hit here in Houston, the grid itself is going to be tested again this weekend.

Geni is ready and I can run both gas and propane now. Have my extension cords here in the house because if the power goes I can’t open the garage. Learned that the hard way before. Have (2) 30# propane tanks ready in my patio storage (that I can quickly get to) Also have 25 gallons of gas ready in the garage. By the time I need it, should be able to access it. Maybe I’ll go and release the door latch so I can slide it open if we loose power.

I wired up a power inlet port to a 50amp breaker on my service panel. Single cable from the generator, to the inlet box cut off the main, unlock the 50 amp and whole house is powered. No more extension cords to deal with. I also upgraded the exhaust with a larger muffler and dropped it from 70db to 45db under load so you can barely hear it from the street. Next step is to upgrade it to tri-gas and install a hose connector on the gas line to run it off natural gas then build an enclosure so it will be whisper silent. ;)

I have a lot of firewood and lots of instant ramen!

When my roof needs replacing, I think we're going with solar shingles and a power wall because apparently we live in a third world country.
I have solar panels and 3 powerwalls. Generac just came out with a system I may have gone for if it was available at the time. They have their solar/battery system, but they have a paired genny as well. Get the benefit of solar and battery with a little extra breathing room if the weather stays dark.

You're kidding me again?
Don't worry, Abbot is trying to get crypto mining to take off here to stress the grid to the limits to encourage more generation with the idea that he can just ask crypto miners to stop mining and the will. Makes sense, if I know anything about people into crypto, they really want the govt telling them what to do.

Either that, or he knows he did not get anything fixed and was trying to set up a scapegoat.

Those of you relying on generators, start it up and test it today. If we do have an outage you don't want to be trying to figure out why it won't start during.
Ran my natural gas Jenny last week. Started up like a champ.

Why do people always look at ramen noodles as a broke/survival food?! I eat them all the time! Gotta get the Korean brands, throw in eggs, steak, vegis, etc.

LOL storm watch activated.

For those of you that do not know, Tesla power walls have a storm watch setting. When enabled it monitors the National Weather Service for weather alerts in the install location. If there is an alert for weather that has a high chance of causing power outages it activates storm watch. This overrides all settings, charges the batteries to full, and keeps them there just in case. It is the only time the batteries are allowed to charge from the grid.
