Hopefully the blackouts (load sheds) don't happen, but tomorrow morning will be the big test. This time last year I had crews at quite a few power plants in Texas working on repairing issues caused by the freeze. This year we are all on sites but just sitting on standby in case something happens. The utilities spent a ton of money over the last year heat tracing and winterizing their plants. So far it seems to be working. BTW I am in Ft. Worth right now on site and all three of these units are running on low load in case there is more demand on the grid and they can throttle up immediately.

I personally don't think there will be anything other than localized issues unless something drastic happens like inches of freezing rain. Never hurts to make sure your backups are in working order and ready to go though.

I mean, are we even going to get down to the temps where issues started last year? Not to mention every plant owner is going to be authorizing anything they can to keep stuff running out of fear of a lesser event causing issues after they were "fixed" by regulation and more costly regulations get passed as a result.

Stay safe. My wife's cousin works up around Palo Pinto. I think they are all hands on deck.

All of my companies data center facilities people are all hands as well.

Elon is a brilliant guy. The stuff he says about AI should scare us all.
He's not that smart ... just another run of a mill industrialist like Rockifeller. The only difference is that instead of exploiting railroad workers he's exploiting aerospace engineers out of college who are too dumb/naive to know their worth. And instead of building worthless libraries he's building charging stations ...

Guys one big issue last year was they shut down the nuclear power plant in south Texas because it was not designed to run under 32 degrees. It was much cheaper to not enclose much of the facility like they do up north and since it very rarely freezes in south Texas it was a gamble that usually works. They are not expecting those kind of temps down there so even though all the wind farms will ice up, the nuclear plant will keep rocking.
We had about 2 hours of sleet and it is 22 this morning but we are good with no power issues today. FYI, Frelsburg is about 1 hour west of Houston.

STP being down had a lot to do with it. But there were also quite a few of the plants that had frozen control systems and tripped. But looks like we made it through this year. Although I did have a minor freakout at 0200 this morning when my RedSea doser went offline and text me.
