That closely matches the info I got from ShaneV

What I have shows James started in 1997, with meetings at his house. Eric Borneman, Frank Marini, and Barba Schultz where some of the first.

Hello from sunny Anchorage Alaska! It’s true I moved to Houston in July 1998 and we started up the club shortly after at my home in the Heights. We didn’t incorporate the club and do the paperwork until after that. Some of the founding members were Frank, Barbara, Eric, See Loong, Michael Gerdes, and Lesley Douglas. I know there were others I’m missing so I apologize- but it’s been almost 23 years!

In 2008 I was kind of looking for an online club to join. I remember reading a guys bio about his aquarium. And he mentioned Marsh so said hello. My tank looks so much better now thanks.

I am curious as to how the OG guys are running their tanks. You learn a few things over time. Somehow I imagine a bunch of guys using MH lighting and Precision Marine reactors. I know I’m wrong but you know… that’s how I used to do it lol.

I dug up a bunch of old photos from 1999 and sent them to the admins. Enjoy!!! Just for kicks - here are our first membership cards from 1999 and some splash graphics from our first website. Frank Marini did the graphics I believe.

I'm so proud of you all that you've kept MARSH going strong for so long.

James

Yeah I’m going to try and figure out how to have t-shirts made like the originals. I need this in my life.

Is there any way you have those tshirt designs in a higher definition pic? They’re going to be impossible to have made at that resolution and I’d love to make some.

Here are some of those other pictures @jamesw mentioned. These are from the collection trip in June of 1999, and a picture of @schprock tank from 1999.

We have the original artwork in Dropbox.

I was close with 2000. Reef Central had DFW at the time but that was about it. Couple years later I think the Marsh forum was actually ready.. why I remember 2000. May have actually been incorporated 97-98..

Whoops - I moved to Houston in July of 1998. I edited the post. Want to hear something crazy - I brought my fish and clams on the airplane with me from Oakland CA to Houston! Eric Borneman kept them for me in his tank until I got a tank set up in Houston! I had a purple tang that made the trip and lived to be over 10 years old.

Back then we did lots of events with the guys from DFW. You can see Brad from DFW in the collection trip photos. He came down with Anthony (The big & tall guy - I think that was his name) for that trip. They also did the Next Wave conference in DFW and brought in Dr. Ron and Morgan Lidster - it was awesome. None of that had anything to do w/ ReefCentral.

James texted me about this thread; mentioned the t-shirts, and since I’m a sucker for saving things, found mine! I apparently wore it to do some painting! Glad to hear the club is still going strong!!

Hi.. Lol don’t you get a lifetime tag too? I bet that can be arranged. Do you still keep a tank?

Well the problem with that is we have to know the user names to match up with firstname/lastname info ShaneV gave me. Additionally until ShaneV mentioned it we didn't even know about any of that history or those decisions. ;)

Haha! That’s Ok! And I had a different name back then (Barbara Pike)! No, I don’t still have a tank.
