Just thought I would show the progress being made on my 100 gallon. I bought the DAP tank as you see it below. 48" x 21" x 23" or somewhere right around there. Sorry for some crap pictures.

Just you basic cabinet, but when your broke you work with what you got.

One 1" drain and two 3/4" returns.

Next pictures are my attempt to build a large canopy to hide the coralvue MH reflectors and still be able to keep them off the water for heat reasons.

Since it is the only thing in the room the larger canopy looked ok.

This shows the test fitting of the MH and light test, I also got rid of that terrible room light.

Time to throw some paint on it.

Now another light test with both 250w MH and both 46.5" VHO. Mounting the reflectors high I was able to eliminate the shadow caused by the center brace.

I am not sure what or if I am going to do anything about all the reflected light out of the top. I want to see what my water temps do before I close it up any further.

Here is just the VHOs

Now some peeks inside the canopy.

Holes on the end of the canopy are for two 120mm temp controlled fans.

Here is an attempted shot of overflow box.

I will be using a PM R30 and reef octopus skimmer that will arrive on Monday.

Close up

I plan on knocking out the plumbing and fans tomorrow. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Love the way the lighting is in this shot :)

One suggestion, I can't tell in the later pics if you've done it, but you might want to put a board under the tank now while its empty. That way any inevitable spills or salt creep won't ruin your wood floors.

Just a word of advice. I would rethink the location or have your woodfloor sealed. One small leak or overflow will toast your floors. Happened to me in one of my rooms.

I did get a some 1x4 under it with 1/2" and sealed all the seams on the inside for just that reason. Although I can say I would be to mad if I had to change that color wood :)

Here are some pics from the plumbing that was done today. Still have a few things that I am going to change but nothing major.

Hard to tell what I did on the return, but its 1" tube out of the pump (quiet one 4000) into a 1" wye then reduced down at the bulkhead.

More testing to check for leaks.

Here is a shot of all the ballast mounted on the back. Still have some wire management to do.

Now it's time to get in a hurry and wait for BRS rock to show up on Tuesday.

Here is the protein skimmer I decided to go with to squeeze into the R30.

Here are the fans that went into the canopy. I bought a rubber gasket from micro center to cut down on noise made by the fans. While I was there I picked up some fan covers. With a little spray paint it will blend nicely.

Salt of choice

Here is the skimmer in its new home.

BRS reef saver rocks. Wish they would have sent some small ones with these boulders, o well nothing a hammer can't fix.

I am by no means good at aquascaping. This is what I settled with, lots of area for coral. Pictures just don't do it justice.

Time for water

Now just to sit and wait for RO/DI unit to make the rest.

Great build. I like your equipment choices, and the BRS rock is fantastic.

What are you going to do for flow in the tank, and what kind of coral are you planning keeping?

Plan on SPS, this thursday is going to be xmas for me 2-MP40s are due to show up.

Another good choice! I run 2x MP40's on a 4'x2'x16" tank, and my only regret is that I didn't go barebottom. I get pretty deep "sand channels" around my tank from flow between rocks, and the sand over time gets pulled from the middle of the tank towards the sides due to the undertow, but hopefully you won't have that issue as your tank is deeper than mine.

Very nice. Tank is looking awesome already. Nice collection of toys so far. I'm guessing calc reactor?

Wow that salt was expensive.

Yeah tell me about it, I thought the salt would be worth a shot. There are plans for a calc reactor but not until obama gives me my tax money back. I will just dose 2 part until I break down and buy one.

Well the toys are in.

Here it is mounted, I mounted them a little high to keep from getting the sand problem as stated above. There is still lots of flow in and around the rocks. I my move them I may not.

Here is the Kalk reactor that I will be running until I get to a point to where I need to add a calcium reactor also.

I am currently looking into media reactors for GFO and carbon every now and then. So if anyone has any input or suggestions please share.
