12w or 16w grow light enough? (1 Viewer)

Like the title says would this grow light be enough to grow macroalgae?
Has reds and blues.

I wonder how they came up with 16wt. Most sellers seem to simply add up the number of LEDs and multiply by the wattage of an individual LED. Is this an actual honest seller or am I thinking of this wrong?

For all intents and purposes it will depend on the PAR as you probably know. I have a 23wt par 38 bulb that puts off less than 100 par only one foot away.

I am interested to hear Dragon's results.

I thought that too about watts.
I know someone who has it.

I have a 55g sump. With about 40 gallon in it. It has about 17 inches of water.

Am I looking for more watts to penetrate the water?

Watts is how much electricity is used to power the device. Par is how much light you have. Yes more watts means more power which means more PAR but there are other variables as well. The efficiency of the diode, the optics, color temperature, etc.

Plants prefer blue and red.

Chris I've had that clam for 10 months now. It has been under 3 different light the 12 watt and I under a 16 watt and also a 11 watt and it's probably grown most likely about half an inch.

According to my Seneye is putting out ~95par @ 6.5in. Seneye thinks it's 10K kelvin, but it's bright pink. Apex says it's pulling 15w.

I'm hoping to get my refugium put together this week or next. I have to drill out the ATO that came with the reefer and do some re-plumbing. Now where'd I leave that motivation....

So 6.5 inches below the water it reads 95 par.
How high above the water?
Is that straight down?
How far is the spread of light?

I with you on the motivation thing. I need to clean out my sump with my dry vac before I really get the refugium going.

Just thru air and that's the reading dead center. Drops off quite a bit to the sides. At 13" it gets 30par across a pretty wide spread though.

PUR is reading 88% which is good.

I guess it depends on much of a reduction in nutrients you need. BRS compared several lights which gives a good idea of results from different amounts of PAR
