Its been a while, I last had a 450 Gallon that I sold to get my Mustang and to keep the wife happy with having to many things going on, lol. But I was able to sneak by a smaller tank; a six foot 160 Gallon 29" tall All Glass tank I picked-up for a good price. My goal will be to have a full functioning always expanding reef tank up and running by the end of the month or two or three...lol... To get started I wanted the tank to be front and back viewable in my living room so I had to scape the paint off the back and sides of the tank as well as scape the coraline buildup on the indside of the tank. I was able to get her pretty clean but there are some small (probably insignifcant buildups to the average reefer) I was unable to scrape so will do a vinegar bath before setup. I will provide a bunch of pictures below to show my progress thus far. As far as my equipment I plan to purchase and run will be as follows:
72" - 3 x 250watt 10k halides with 4 x 96watt actinic's
Bubble Magness - NAC7 -Meshwheel cone protein skimmer or a BM-180
2 x 20long Sumps - one with wet/dry and one with refugium and skimmer
Mag 24 return pump
power heads- ??? qty of 2 dont know what brand yet
5 gal auto top off setup
diy alk & calcium doising setup
controller - ??? last pruchase item for me
150lbs of live rock
100lbs live sand
with a ever growing list....lol
As Far as the tank stand and canopy I will/have just built on my own. The tank is constructed out of 2 x 4's with a total of 6 main support beams/legs. 3 in the front and 3 in the back. Each of which has a footprint of 6.5" wide x 3.5" deep... pretty well braced i think, maybe even overkill..lol. The stand is 42" tall...lol (im 6'5") the canopy is 14" tall with 3 access doors. I have pretty much finished building the stand and canopy and just need to sand and put 2 coats or so of red mahagondy stain on it, and slap on the handles and door locks to finish it off. I am wondering about the weight I can have on the top of the tank being the canopy and lights, so advice would be nice hear on the max weight load you have run or would recommend. I apologize if it seems like Im running sentences together or rambling on, just wanted to catch you guys up with everything I have done so far, I will do my best to update with progress and pictures the rest of the way.
