LOL...Yeah, I know what you're talking about...I always forget the name of them though, and it takes me bit to find them. My boss plugged them directly into his return outlet. Good random water movement very easily.

Nice zoas leaf! *drool*

Those zoas look like they came from me at some point up the line. If you want a frag, I've got plenty of them.

Now I'm thinking of taking out the overflow box adding a strainer to the bulkhead making a cloosed loop with a SCWD and then add the biggest aqua clear HOB filter with LR and cheato. any opions.?

When I saw it come up I thought you might be looking for one.

Personally I don't recommend SCWDs, I've just heard too many people try them and have them fail very quickly. Other than that I think it would work fine.
Mine has been running for over a year and a half with no problems. I have not really heard of anything bad happening besides restriction of GPH. The random flow is great that they produce. IMHO

The only bad thing that happens is they tend to break. They're very simple devices with just some plastic gears to help direct flow. But unless you have a very good straining system before it they tend to get stuff in them, just like anything else in our tanks. Since they're plastic, and a sealed unit that you can't clean effectively, they tend not to last very long. There are hundreds of threads/comments about them failing on all the boards.

The people that seem to have the most luck with them generally have good strainers/filters before them, and many take them off the system once every 6-8 months and soak them in vinegar.

The folks that just put them on they're return line and dont' have anything to trap detritus before it gets to the scwd, don't have them for long.
