I have a 40B tank that will be just sps only. I have a red planet frag so far. I will be buying more sps soon. I really don't know where to place frags at. I'm hoping y'all can help me out on location's for the frags. The light is 250 reflux 12k. What would be some good ones to get?

Assuming you are not testing us, LOL.
I would say start at the bottom and slowly bring them to the top.

Yes i'm not Don lol. Where would be a good placement for the red planet and what would be some good corals to get? This tank been running for three years it started out as a frag tank then nothing for awhile now it will be sps tank. coralline algae is all over the rocks and glass front glass has been cleaned off.

I believe you guys are mistaking this member, "Fragsnmore," with Don - "FragsandMore"... slight difference in spelling, yet confusing. Furthermore, I don't see why he would sign up with a second handle, which I thought was frowned against or not allowed for one user to have 2 screen names? And too, the location would obviously be incorrect if indeed it were Don posting. Moving on to the OP (original post) now...

A 250w halide over the 16" height of a 40g breeder will allow you to place SPS coral pretty much anywhere in the tank. Typically, in most applications reefers blast their coral with more than needed PAR value. The reflector you use will greatly increase or hinder overall PAR results also. It appears you have a quality reflector in your application so I would say you are well within the PAR value range for any SPS. Another little side note that I am sure you are aware of is due to the 36" length of the 40 breeder and lighting the tank with a single pendant, you will have "shadow" areas on either end. However, your lighting coverage front to back (over the span of 18") is plenty sufficient.

Currently I am using the same 250w 12k ReefLux bulb and I like the results and coloration. Additionally, I do not supplement any actinic lighting (from the pic it appears you are not either) and this was partly the reason for me choosing the 12k. However, I have a 175w 10k ReefLux on another tank that I prefer over the 12k. When it comes time to replace the bulb I am either going the Reeflux 10k route, or I am going to try an Ushio 10k...

You will notice more prominent red coloration throughout the Red Planet the higher you place it in the tank; conversely, you will see more of the green base/hues with a medium to lower light intensity. Obviously, let your personal preference in coloration determine where you place this piece. For me, the same goes for what to recommend in coral selection... It depends, what do you like?

I'm On the iPhone. Lol

Why create such similar user names? There are few other ones out there.

depends on what you like? collector-esque stuff or just colorful stuff? my personal favorites are

ORA blue tort and green slimer. Extremely colorful and fast growers.

A nice green or pink milli, there are some well known variants of the green milli that are downright beautiful. Being that you already have a red planet, i'd suggest green milli instead.

Digitata, Yup, i said it, it may be cheap, but digitata comes in so many nice colors.

Lastly deepwater. Nice way to fill out the lower half of your tank with some Blue bottle brushes or some green Suharsanoi.

Lots of local reefers will have some nice colored tri-color stags and such for variety.
