I really like the film canister idea on Scubamedics page. I'm gonna incorporate that into my setup. It's a very elegant solution for securing the float switch.
My overall setup is much simpler than Scubamedics...Just the same float switch he used with the wires spliced into an extension cord. The extension cord is plugged into the wall, a little rio 50 sits in a 5 gallon bucket of fresh water with 6ft of airline tubing running to the sump. The rio's cord is plugged into the extension cord. When the float switch drops with the water level the pump kicks on and pumps fresh water into the sump until the level rises enough that the float switch is cut back off.
