Hello, dear reefers, I have mine biopellet reactor running for about half an year and I was wondering when I should add more biopellet. Just another side question, which site do you guys use so you can post pictures on MARSH? Dropbox isn't really working for me.

I add more when it gets low. I start out with about 1000ml and when it gets down to about 500ml, I add more to bring it back up. What is more important however is your level of nutrient control. When I notice nutrients ticking back up, relative to where they are traditionally, I ck pellet levels and add if necessary. So what works for me will obviously be different than what works for you, but the method is the same.

You can insert .jpg and .bmp from your computer using the "insert image" button on your reply.

I'm assuming for the 90g you have in your signature? One cup is the max you should ever need, and you only add more if they dissolve or escape the reactor. I like to turn mine off, measure the amount in there with a piece of tape (typically marking the date on the tape, as well), then check from time to time.

If you run these, please be sure not to run GFO, UV, or O3. If you are using any of those, slow down on them as you should need them with what a biopellet reactor is designed to do (add beneficial bacteria to reduce nitrates).

I don't run mine right now, but I've had great success with them. I will be using one as soon as my system matures a bit more. I still run GFO when I need it, as well as O3 and UV (cautiously).

I guess I should have mentioned that the amount I run is for a 400g system. That is what I was implying about "what works for me will obviously be different than what works for you..." (thanks flipside). What I was really meaning was that as flipside said, mark your level (what works for YOUR tank) and when it gets about 1/3 below that, top it back off. Of course make sure they aren't clumping or anything. If they are, I would toss and put all new, back to the level that works for YOU. Yes, there is a such thing as too much with biopellets.

I use about 1-1.5 cups for my 250 gallon total volume. I top off back to my line when it gets low every 6 months.

I run mine with GFO and UV with no issues but each tank is different.
