I am planning on transferring everything from my 55 gallon reef into a 75 gallon tank but i am not going to start until i figure out how to do this properly and the right way so i won't lose any livestock or corals.

So any tips or suggestions would greatly be appreciated on how to approach this.

Thanks!

i have all the equipment needed for this upgrade since its not a huge upgrade i can use the same equipment, but as far as moving the rocks, sand, and livestock is what i mainly need help on the transfer method. I also did some research and some people say not to use the same live sand due to nitrate spikes or something so i would like to get some feedback if its ok to use the same sand or not.
My tank has been established for about a 2 1/2 years

Correct, your best bet is using two new bags of live sand.

Marine sediment forms distinct bacterial zones which occupy different niches usually separated out by depth from the sediment surface. Altering this zonation, releases toxic substances into other zones or into the water column.

If you disturb these zones, you should wash, aerate out the sand, and start from new. Considering this effort, most people just get new sand. Did that explain why people in general don't re-use sand?

Good luck with your move. I have made a few moves over the years just give yourself lots of time and thought to get er done. Marine livestock can be very delicate and it is a heart breaker when things go wrong.

moving your tank across the rooms is not really a big deal. i did it and reused sand and it wasnt a big deal. i would suggest to vacuum it really well. that will aerate it and any gas pockets will hopefully be syphoned out. Moving across town is another matter entirely. best of luck with the move. I put a kiddie pool or large tub on the floor to hold livestock during the move previously. it worked pretty well. you probably dont have too much going on in a 55g, so maybe one of those 20g tubs from walmart with the rope handles would be plenty
