So I purchased some OceanMagik directly from Algae Barn on Saturday it shipped out on Monday. It arrived Wednesday afternoon and was brought inside immediately. When we opened the box the ice packs were melted and not even cool to the touch. So I noticed that this product smells like rotten eggs is this normal? I already filed a claim just to be on the safe side.

I haven't used that product but have experience with other algae and they should never smell bad when they arrive. In general, vendors don't ship algae products (such as macros and phyto) as carefully as they do when shipping critters because "plants" are more hardy. Unfortunately, this is bad news in our climate and results in seaweed soup. If you want to purchase a phyto product in summer months, definitely pick up something local.

Thank you I appreciate the feedback. Do you know where I could find some local?

I had multiple claims with them a few years back for the exact same thing. I finally gave up on the 3rd shipment. I would have thought they would have learned their lesson by now

Yeah it is kinda of unfortunate honestly I was looking forward to using the product. I went and picked up a bottle of Pyhco Pure reef blend today. Anyone have any experience using it?

Have you considered ordering from Dinkins? They're just up the road in Dallas and have a lot of stuff to offer.

I just made my first order with them last night. I'm hoping that, since they are in Texas, they will know how to pack for this heat. It will be interesting to see what a gallon of pods looks like.

Yeah most definitely keep us updated on how that goes. I’m interested to see as well!

Also, this guy has a pretty decent product. I looked at it under my scope and although this species is non-motile, it was clearly alive and definitely doesn’t smell rotten. I got some from Chad with Reef Nutrition and his was bad too. Most of what he sells is dead. He says it doesn’t matter, but I like mine alive. I know this guy below has clean water too. We got into a tiff so I stopped ordering from him because I don’t trust him now, but I definitely recommend his product. The Phyto was always fresh and alive and typically took 3 days to be delivered.

I got my shipment from Dinkins yesterday, and all was well. The phyto smelled like a healthy beach, and there were a whole lot of live pods. The cold packs were still slightly cool, though there was so much condensation that the paper the bottles were wrapped in was falling apart, but the important thing was the stuff that was supposed to be alive was.

I took a video of the pods. This is my first attempt to post a video, so we'll see what happens.
