Has anyone ever used one to raise PH in waste water from RODI system. I have been told that it will improve the taste of water but want see if anyone has this in their system. Thanks

Did not want to waste water and was told it really improves the taste. I was thinking about using it for the tank to raise the PH but wouldn't that be just like adding TDS back in?

I would just use kalk wasser to raise ph.

Using waste water would add a lot of gross water to the tank

If I was going to use the water for the tank I would run to RODI water through the filter. Do you think that If I ran the RODI water through the filter to raise the PH it would work?

Adding tds back into the system. The reason why Dasani and Starbucks taste the way they do, is the water filtration systems. Basically strip it all down and then add specific amounts of minerals back in to create a flavor profile. That way each cup of coffee starts with the same flavor profile that can be recreated and Dasani water tastes the same no matter if it came from the Dallas public water system, Lake Michigan or the clean water of lake houston.

That’s correct. When I lived in Wisconsin I worked with a guy who had worked at the water bottling plant. They made basically everyone’s water. They took water from the Chippewa River, dropped it to 0 TDS, and then re-added whichever company’s flavor pack they were manufacturing that day.

I wonder what chemicals that filter is adding to boost your alkalinity of the RO water? We measure TDS, but in reality TDS doesn’t really tell us much. For example you will have a higher TDS coming out of the carbon block filters then going into them. Does that mean they are not removing the chlorine or chloramines like they are supposed to? Nope. So TDS, unless it’s zero, doesn’t really tell you much. In order to have confidence in what you are adding back to the water with the filter you would have to test a sample that came out of the filter and figure out what it is adding. Unless you can guarantee that I would avoid using it. Humans can consume chemicals that don’t bother us that really can bother corals or feed algae in your tank.

I also do that for my coffee. I don’t use 0 TDS water but my last drinking water canister stage is a mineral cartridge for taste.. btw. I ran a line to my fridge and the ice/ water is amazing. It runs through the fridge filter system after the osmosis. Not gonna lie.. some of the best tasting water I have ever had.

That’s what we do with our water too btw. Strip everything and add back what we want in the salt.

Looks like the filter is going on my water to the fridge. My buddy works for a water company and gave me the filters. He knows nothing about saltwater but a lot about water and swears that this will improve the taste. Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah RO/DI water doesn’t taste good at all. I assume it’s because our bodies recover mineral from water so our taste buds develop a taste for mineralized water. Way back we owned a Zero water filter and the water that thing produced was horrendous. Lol!
