That’s correct. When I lived in Wisconsin I worked with a guy who had worked at the water bottling plant. They made basically everyone’s water. They took water from the Chippewa River, dropped it to 0 TDS, and then re-added whichever company’s flavor pack they were manufacturing that day.Adding tds back into the system. The reason why Dasani and Starbucks taste the way they do, is the water filtration systems. Basically strip it all down and then add specific amounts of minerals back in to create a flavor profile. That way each cup of coffee starts with the same flavor profile that can be recreated and Dasani water tastes the same no matter if it came from the Dallas public water system, Lake Michigan or the clean water of lake houston.
I wonder what chemicals that filter is adding to boost your alkalinity of the RO water? We measure TDS, but in reality TDS doesn’t really tell us much. For example you will have a higher TDS coming out of the carbon block filters then going into them. Does that mean they are not removing the chlorine or chloramines like they are supposed to? Nope. So TDS, unless it’s zero, doesn’t really tell you much. In order to have confidence in what you are adding back to the water with the filter you would have to test a sample that came out of the filter and figure out what it is adding. Unless you can guarantee that I would avoid using it. Humans can consume chemicals that don’t bother us that really can bother corals or feed algae in your tank.If I was going to use the water for the tank I would run to RODI water through the filter. Do you think that If I ran the RODI water through the filter to raise the PH it would work?
I also do that for my coffee. I don’t use 0 TDS water but my last drinking water canister stage is a mineral cartridge for taste.. btw. I ran a line to my fridge and the ice/ water is amazing. It runs through the fridge filter system after the osmosis. Not gonna lie.. some of the best tasting water I have ever had. That’s correct.
