My Hanna checker is pretty consistent per bottle. The only issue I have had with it was when I switch bottles sometimes the readings are different...which I do NOT like. Also I have learned to mix up the solution before I suck it out of the bottom of the bottle. Did you buy new reagents or use the old ones you got from the guy? I would recommend a new bottle...really 3 bottles in case there are any issues. However, there is nothing wrong with Salifert kit if you can read it...some of us have troubles seeing different shades of color. Yeah I suck at titration readings

You need to set a specific Alk target...not 7-11. With that said what is the alk of the salt you are using? For me the easiest thing to do was to buy a salt with the numbers you are wanting. So if your salt says it is 8.3 then make that your target number always....not 9 and not 7, but 8.3 always. Find a target and stay there...for years and years if possible. Consistency is the key to reefing and you cannot have it 9 one month and then 7 two months later. I personally run 8.3 to 8.4. 8.5 is acceptable but I start turning things down slightly. Same with 8.2...means I need to dos a little more.

While I appreciate all the info, I truly just wanted a third result so I could determine if I had a huge alk drop or not, and to know if either of my tests were consistent with a third data point.

My hanna is very consistent and accurate. They also sell a calibration solution to compare your tester to. If it is off they will replace it.

This is a unique thread.

You want to determine if there’s a huge Alk drop?

I will admit I haven’t been testing as often as I should.

You don’t test often. You don’t have a specific target number. You obviously don’t match the tank chemistry with water changes if you don’t have target numbers. No recent test results to compare new/old numbers with.

Avoiding the things mentioned above leads to big Alk swings. Why are you concerned about this now?

@gregg or @Cody , can one of you please turn off commenting to this thread?
This is really getting ridiculous! @Reefahholic , what part of wanting to know if my alk was over 8 or barely 5 is so hard for you to grasp??? The alk drop I referred to above is the possibility that the Hanna was correct and that my alkalinity needed to be immediately addressed. PLEASE stop reading more into my attempts to clarify your misinterpretations!

I sure do like mine. Never let me down yet. Does the new dKH meter read .01-.09 or just .1, .2, etc.?
