I've recently had several colonies of these little guys pop up around the tank. At first I thought they were hydros (still not sure since I can't find much information on them). They live in colonies and there are a few larger ones in the tank (this one is the easiest to take a picture of). Take a look and tell me what you think, thanks.

This is what they look like when open

And this is what happens if they are disturbed, in this case a puff of water was blown across them and they immediately withdraw. If I shoot the water across them harder they will completely with draw into the "mound".

could be hyrdoids, could be a foram, what size are we looking at here? The body looks like a reddish/purple color and if it is a hard shell it could be a foram.

The reddish/purple forams are usually no larger than 1/4 of an inch, sometimes 1/2 of an inch. Usually a sign of a healthy tank with a decent amount of phyto or filter food in the water.

More info on forams here (you might have 2nd row of forams pictured, middle picture).
