To all:

I lost a Ritteri anemone today (it commited suicide by "jumping" off the back of my rocks and sliding down the glass behind the rockwork).

I actually tore apart the corals (into a awaiting 50 g rubbermaid) down to the sand looking for him... nothing. I just got done replacing all of the rocks into the tank (the fish are MILDLY stressed out)...

Anywho...

Does anyone know if the anemone (in dying) will release anything (more than a dying fish would) into the water that I should look out for?

Thanks!

Just watch for an ammonia spike. I'd have water ready for an emergency water change or 2.

IT'S ALIVE :D :D :D

I was moving some more rock this morning (I realized that when I rebuilt the reef last night in my frenzy, I had shaded a few polyps and I wanted to get them into the "sun" before the lights came on this AM)

Anyway, I found the anemone attached to the glass at the back of the tank at the very BOTTOM at the substrate line. I gently pried him off (using my new Time Warner Customer Discount card... this is the first use I've had for that card by the way) and lifted him into a rock cusp in the center of the tank...

I felt so bad when I woke this AM, and saw my clown sleeping on the sand bed. It looked so lonely and unnatural... Hopefully in a few hours when the anemone recovers from being moved they'll pair up again.....

what

What are you lighting that anenome with? And how much water flow do you have blowing over it?

I've got 2 x 400W 10K MH and 2x4' VHO Actinics. The flow is in the "nodal" pattern of my two ZooMed Powersweeps (rated at 280gph each) and my Ocean Currents pulser driven by a Rio 1700 (delivering around 600 gph). The confulence of these streams is near the anemone, but not right on it, to give it a pretty good amount of turbulence.
