Glad you found one. I have my own in Cypress if anyone ever needs to borrow.

That's nice of you. Yeah, I thought I was at about 150 par....but 80 is unacceptable. I'm glad I picked up that meter.

I would have ramped the lights back up soon, but I honestly would have still been too low. I hate the shimmer of LED's (I have them at very low percentage only for color), but without them you really have to increase the t5's to a high percentage to achieve the appropriate numbers. I didn't realize how low my aquascape was. Not to mention my fixture is higher than want most people perfer so I can get into the tank and work.

Anyway, don't reef blind....Grab a par meter and check your light output.

FYI...I checked my LED fuge light and it was hitting 350-400 par at the surface of my cheato. I'm impressed with that LED blub.

Got the par meter today. Gezz... I was way off. I knew the numbers were low, because I burnt tips, stressed my Gigantea, and took the power way down, but the corals were only getting 80 par at the top of the rocks which are already low in the tank. Yikes!

Bumped it up to 200 par. Probably gonna burn tips, again, but I only ramped the T5’s up w/o the LED’s so maybe they’ll tolerate it better. I don’t have time to ramp right now. I guess if they burn I’ll have to. Normally I’d go up by 5-10% a week, but just gonna be stupid aggressive and hope they tolerate it. My wife is fixing to have the baby so it is what it is right now.
Jeez, your lights were super low. A par meter gives a lot of insight into your tank.

What I did was pic maybe 8-12 spots in my tank and numbered them on a piece of paper. I turned on my t5s, put my leds at zero, then measure each point that I had plotted. Then, I would increase one led channel by 25%, then test all spots again. I kept repeating this until I completed all 17 rounds of tests (assuming you did 8 plot points). It helps to have your spouse or friend to write down the readings as you call them out. Then, you'll know relatively what your par is whenever you adjust in the future.

Yeah, it was waaaaay low. I didn’t plot any points. I just used it to boost the par at the top of the scape. Then I played with the LED’s and T5’s to see what generated the numbers I was looking for at different percentages.

We have 3
North side meter currently on loan to Cody. I manage that one.
West side meter is in Katy area I think PorpoiseHork (Brett) manages that one.
South Side - Reefling (Cory) is currently managing.

I am not sure on the status of West/South side meters but they look to be available.

I'm going to need to use one soon as I'm changing my lights. Can I get on the list for the north side one?
