I've used Kent Marine sea salt since the beginning of our tanks but received a 5 gallon bag of Oceanic salt in the mail the other day and have been thinking about doing a water change with it. Has anyone else tried this salt?

Great stuff. $35 for 150 gal in a nice tiny box unlike those monster buckets I used to buy!

I used my free bag and all my corals doubled in size with in hours. I ended up spending half the night fraging.

Yeah, it's a new salt. I sent off for a free sample a late last year and it just arrived. I actually have a box of Marine Mix Bioassay Formula salt that I've been too scared to try to use because of all the terrible things that happened to other people's tanks when they switched. I've been advised just to do small amounts at a time, like 5%, but I'm bawk bawk *chicken*.

Kent Marine

I believe it was the CoralIfe Rep. at a past MARSH meeting who informed us that Kent Marine was made by Instant Ocean.

Tom, did you snort some of that foil wrapped salt when your corals doubled overnight?

Kent's salt is made by Insant Ocean but is made to Kent's specifications just like panasonic makes coralifes bulbs.

I used the Oceanic salt and nothing happened good or bad.

I haven't snorted salt but I do taste it. I can get pretty close to the right salinity by taste. :D

the one thing i have heard a lot from all of the customers that bought it from me is that it has problems disolving fast. it leaves a white powder on everything. i beleive that theyre seeing some kind of calcium precipitate in the water which prolly doesnt hurt anything, but says to me that the money you save buying is the money they saved refining it

I noticed a slight reduction in algae growth when I tried it in the coral prop tank when I worked at Moody. I've heard a few bad things about the stuff though, can't remember what they were at the moment though.
