Does anyone know of a retailer that carries the AquaC EV series protein skimmers? I'd rather not order it online, but will if necessary.

I am not aware of aware of anywhere local.
If you do find them locally it would be nice to know where!

I am curious why you chose Aqua C?

I have an EV 180 and love it, but I know many think highly of other brands.

I owned a HOB Remora, then upgrade to a 180, and if I need to upgrade with my new tank I plan on going that way again.

I like the AquaC EV for the performance and how quiet they are. I had the older model EV90 before and couldn't hear it skimming over the pump. I was just going to get the PM bullet-1, but Fish Place had them running in the show room, and the thing was god awful loud.
My tank is in my bedroom, so when looking for equipment my first question is always "does it make noise?".
For the life of me I just can't seem to find one locally.

Good info to learn about the noise.

I don't think anyone has them locally !
I am not really sure if any of the online sponsors carry them but look around since you are a paid member and will get the discounts.

I was telling someone today about mag pumps being work horses, and I feel the same way about Aqua C products.

I've found a couple of online sponsors that have them, I just don't like waiting for things. :D

If I can't find a place tomorrow then I'll just have to deal with shipping.

Just to let you know someone in reefcentral have one for sale. It's only 3month old w/ mag pump included. Go to forum and go down to used equipment and dry good. It's on the second page.

I have never been to "That Fish Place" to see their setup but I have a bullet 2 and it is very quiet. There is a muffler that is generally installed on the skimmer to keep it quiet and also the motor they are using can make a difference on how low the skimmer is. I think both skimmers are great and you can't go wrong with the Aqua models or the PM models.

Regards,

if you want quiet consider any of the aspirating skimmers. Anything w/ a needlewheel should be pretty quiet.
I have an AquaC Remora skimmer w/ Mag3, and its freakin loud, its in my study and I have to shut it off when I'm working becuz of the whooshing noise.
To my knowledge you won't find AquaC local, they pretty much use a major distributor, and sell to large volume sellers. Marinedepot sells them

As far as the PM Bullet Skimmer goes, I believe it is the Beckett that makes the horrible sucking sound, but I've never heard of a muffler for it. That may be why the ones at Fish Place were so loud, who knows. I've got experience with the AquaC EV's, so better safe than sorry.
Just an FYI - I took the time to call around to EVERYONE, and no one carrys them locally... Looks like I'll be ordering it from one of our online sponsors.

I have a EV 120. From everything i've read plus personal experiece they are a pain in the ********* to deal with. constant adjusting and very frustrating to use. go with octopus or asm.

i went from mag5 to mag7 to eheim 1260 pump. wish i would've known before getting the stupid skimmer. eheim pumps seem to work best. there's a aquac club on reefcentral if you want user experience.

I have experience with the EV series, and although the tuning can be a bit frustrating, once you get the hang of it it's fairly easy to do.

andrew7b - Thanks for the heads up on that thread. I went ahead and bought his EV180 w/ Mag 7. It's nice to have a few more eyes looking around for a good deal. :D

Now I play the waiting game and near constant tracking, lol.

breiter3, fyi a lot of people are recommending using Mag 9 for EV180 or better an eheim 1262.
I'd like to get an update on the performance you get with the ev180 once it's broken in and skimming and how you like it. just curiousity.....

I agree about the eheim 1262, and will probably upgrade to it. The Mag 7.5 is coming with it so that will have to do for now. Since one of my biggest concerns is noise, I had planned on buying the 1262 when I was looking at new skimmers.
I'll update once it is both broken in and tuned w/ the Mag 7.5, and then again when I get the 1262.
