Can anyone tell me how to set up the apex so I can get the readings via the web or aquanotes? I got a new router and forgot what I needed to do to push the apex through. I have it set up so I can read it from a comp at home. [/i]

depending on your router, setups differ... but ultimate you need to forward port 80 (tcp) to the Apex.

In some routers you can merely forward it to "Apex" such as uverse routers.

On others you will need to figure out the IP assigned to the apex and forward to that.

On other routers, The IP of the apex can change so frequently due to the default configuration that you may need to set the apex's ip as static.

Go to reefcentral. Then go to the Neptune forum. At the top of that forum is a sticky called "The Unofficial apex user guide". Its way better than the official guide and it will walk you through internet access setup step by step

The apex guide isn't terribly helpful it doesn't tell you how to push it through the server

How about this then:

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/2wire/BT2700HG-V/HTTP.htm

(or you can just go to www.portforward.com and check out different routers if that model number doesn't work). I see lots of people having issues with the 2wire (which I think is Uverse, but I could be wrong). Either way just need to get port 80 (HTTP) (or whatever your APEX is set to if you changed from default) forwarded outside of your LAN

You will definitely need to set your APEX to a static IP (rather than DHCP) or as soon as your reboot the router the APEX IP might change.

You will also need to update (or add) your DYNDNS information to the router (username/password) so that it can update your DYN account when your IP address changes (which is the whole point of using this service).

Hope that helps.

Also, page 33 of the Unofficial manual details specifically the Uverse router. I am not familiar with that router directly but other have problems with it so might be some better details.

I followed the guide for the 2Wire and it worked well. The only "gotcha" was the static IP address I gave the Apex did not show in the list. I had to manually add the IP address.

After that, things have worked well. I'd be happy to chat with you on the phone as you set yours up.

Now apparently the AT&T 2Wire router does not do dydns internally. I presume I need to use a client on one of my computers. Can anyone recommend a client/service? Preferably a free service?

DYNDNS supports a client:
http://dyn.com/support/clients/

TZO is another service
http://www.tzo.com/

These are the ones I am familiar with, I am sure there are others though.

Also, if you have another IP device on your network you might also be able to use that. I have a Linksys IP camera (WVC54GCA) where you can put your DYNDNS account info in and it will update from there if your router does not support it. My security DVR also can be used to update your DYNDNS account when the WAN IP changes.

Ah yes, unfortunately dyn.com is no longer a free service for those of us late to the party.

I just found this: http://zoneedit.com. That might work as well.

The idea of using another device is a good one.

Thanks and sorry to thread-jack, darbex!
