I've always wanted to do something different with my rockwork, but every time I go to move things around I end up doing the same thing because of my old powerhead configuration. With my newly installed MP40W, I feel like I have a few more options, and don't have to leave such a huge gap behind the rockwork to prevent dead spots.

Suggestions?

And I know, there's algae everywhere and it looks like *carp*, but it's worlds better than it was. When my chaeto melted into my display this was the result, and I'm still in the recovery phase, so let's try to ignore it lol

One thing that has helped me is trying to do as much of the aquascaping out of the tank as possible. By mounting things together out of the tank in ways that would stay up if they weren't connected has given me shapes that were stable enough to just stack.

Having one high point in the tank half way between the middle and edge is the key to catch eyes.

Good luck! And be careful.

You have too much LR in there. Take some rock out and create a design. I'm assuming the tank is 36X18.

I used this putty and works very well for attaching rocks:

You are starting over and it's probably a good idea to change the LR before you stock up with corals. Dealing with that much algae could be problematic down the road. GL>

I used some of the putty that RR-Man linked for you and it sets up like cement. Works very very well. Thanks again John.

Here is one I built for a client using liverock, eggcrate, and foam (this was a year ago after just filling w/water). Next time I will venture with any epoxy mixture.

check out that "minimalist aquascaping" thread on RC that flexrac posted. Probably more minimalist than you'd want to go but there are some awesome rock scapes in that thread that should spark some ideas. Personally, I'm a fan of separate islands instead of one heap of rock or a rock wall.

i don't think you have too much rock, just seems like your unsure of the look you want.

don't be afraid of using some rock to make a peak or a cliff that you can build with the rock, and mabe a much smaller plateau leaving plenty of open space but still ustilzing all your rock. and if you have any left over then throw that in your sump lol.

i like to take my rock and lay it all out so i see what shapes and sizes i'm working with then visualize a scene instead of just stacking things. i aim to achieve a look or location and they the shape of the rocks dictate how your rotate each piece to suit your needs. don't shy with a hammer and chisel either.
