Ok, so setting the 75 up with a 20 long sump and in trying to make it a more enjoyable experience i am setting up the auto top off i purchased at MACNA (i know i know). Anyway, i am trying to figure out what i should use to pump the water in.

Ok for definitions first: resevoir (33 gallon in garage). Sump (under tank with the level sensor in it)

Setup is tank against garage wall of room. I would like to place the resevoir for the top off water in the garage and plumb a small line through the wall to fill the sump as needed. From what i have read, the level of water in the resevoir has to be lower than that of the sump or it will continue to fill although the pump has turned off. Anyone know if this is true or a workaround would be great. Otherwise my thought is hooking one of the little doser's like the aquamedic which has the roller things that if its not moving, i dont think any water can pass through.

Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

this is true due to gravity, sort of how a siphon works

i think people use mj1200's to pump the water

i went a different approach for my top off,

i use a float valve, and i have a 5g container that has a valve, very easy to install, very convenient, that way i can dose + have makeup saltwater if my salinity gets a little low from drip acclimating new things

I belive the best way to do it is hook it straight to the ro unit with a float valve and the the shut off valve for the ro unit. I had a reservoir before and I hated it.

Unless you are like me and top off with Kalk water or want to raise the salinity a bit. I have a ten gallon tank next to my main tank holding top off water.

Why did you hate it? Every night I add one gallon of kalk water in it and im' done. Maybe 2 minutes tops!

I love my resorvir it lasts almost 2 weeks and I never have to worry about it...

Me too, I have a 18 gallon rubbermiad container, and use an Aquamedic SP3000 to "pump" the water to my sump.

to avoid the syphon back into the resorvir just make sure the tube/pipe that puts the water into the sump is not below the water level. I have mine so the output sits 3-4 inches above the water line and therefore, when my top-off.com turns itself off there is no way to start a back syphon.

Hi, Cathman.
I got one of those Auto Top-Off devices from Trey at MACNA and I love it. You don't need much of a pump, I use a MJ6. My reservoir is a 5 gallon bucket and the MJ6 sits it the bottom with a piece of tubing running to the fuge. Like Brad says, the important thing is to make sure that the end of the tubing stays above the water line of the sump. That will keep the water from your sump from flowing back into your reservoir. If you want to make sure your top off water does not continue flowing into your sump after the pump turns off, you need to plumb your delivery line out the top of your reservoir tank. Drill a small siphon break hole in your line while its still in the tank. That should break any siphon that might be created.

Good luck.
Steve
