Hello MARSH community,
I have been gone too long... not enough time, tank was (relatively) stable, until we had some issues (likely related to temperature changes), and eventually for other reasons, had to break down the tank. Been so long it seems I didn't even renew my membership! Better get on it soon ;)

End of year resolutions: tank is back up and cycling. Only concern at this point is a bad smell but the skimmer is working hard the past two days. I have not yet added stability, soon to come. Is the smell normal given I have dried my rocks for a couple of weeks prior to putting them back and cleaned the whole tank, sump and skimmer?
So I will be watching it cycle and test in a couple of weeks.

And...I got a new heater so hopefully things will get better this time. I will definitely NOT rush it (as I did 5 years ago when I started the hobby!)
Glad to be back!
Cheers

What size tank, I probably would have soaked them in ro water for a few days before putting it in the tank. It’s probably die off from inside the air pockets. It should clear up in a few weeks.

90g + sump
Yeah was about to do that... the smell is slightly better now that the slimmer works.
I have tried ton read about it but should I still keep the slimmer on when adding Stability?

Thanks for your advice!

glad to see you back,

Forget the heater, just keep a stable temp in your house and all will be fine...too many problems with heaters

Ok so tank now cycled. I will be going very slow. Added two blue chromis for a start and a shrimp. So far so good.

Will look around the posts to see if anyone close by has any fish in the next week or so. Also will be looking for easy corals. Let me know if you have any
Happy to finally be back and see some life in the tank!! [emoji4]

I know the feeling! I have been staring at my dry tanks in storage for over a year...it was not fun.
