I have gone through 2 Aqueron filters over the past 2 years. Both were less than 2 years old. For best I am still using my Aquaclear from 1994.

How many of y'all are using hang on back filters to some degree?

I, for instance, have a couple that I use whenever I'm cleaning a tank. They're a great way to filter out the detritus floating around when tank maintenance is going on. However, I don't use them on a day to day basis. They are a supplementation of mechanical filtration.

This is what I am doing and works out great for me.. I have a 125 since 1995. I have a yellow tang. I dori a tomato and nemo. I have 2 damsels. I have had them all for many years and all doing great.. For corals I have 2 bubbles star hammer leathers and other stuff I forget the names of....all doing great. ..For filtration I have 2 big overhangs. I have a small protein skimmer. I have a big bin with 7 big sponges in it. I do a partial water change every 2 months. I clean and/or discard filter media monthly. The 7 big sponges never need cleaning. I have a small container of plant stuff in the aquarium. I do 1 fish feeding dayly and use rodi water.
