I was wondering if anyone else has ever had blue skimate. I am looking at my skimmer right now and the foam is blue...bright blue. There is no external explanation such as household cleaning or anything else. Its really weird, normal amount of foam just blue. Anyone else seen this or know of a reason?

how old is the skimmer??? if it's new it might be some kind of coating perhaps?

have you added any livestock lately? perhaps you had something unknown die. do you have anything creating any slime in your tank? just throwing ideas out there.

nope to all of the above...it's really strange, nothing has changed in a couple of months. And we are talking blue! I was thinking cyano as in blue-green but this is really blue...

odor is the same. I am guessing it is some wierd bacteria/algae bloom, everything is happy in the tank, I'll keep everyone posted if something terrible happens.

Did you recently do a change over on some
pvc and the primer you used is blue. Or
hate to say it do you have kids. I use to
here about this person who had trouble after
trouble with there tank but couldn't
figure out why and as we where talking always
mentioning about late night parties with
people around the tank drunk hmmm
I wonder what they poured or put in the tank
But you also need to check water levels

I think some of the additves/preservatives the put in some of the coral foods (Kent) can cause blue skimmate, what are you using to feed corals?

nope, no recent company, no kids, and the only supplements to the tank are Ca/Alk, S&M, Mg, and iodine. No new pvc in about 6 months.

sorry guys, its not doing it anymore. Thats probably a good thing. It wasn't the actinics reflecting the light because I first noticed it when I cleaned out the skimmer cup in the bathroom.
