Can a Blue Spotted Jawfish killed other fishes. Since I got him 2 weeks ago for my daughter. We had loss 8 Barlett and yesterday a Labouti Wrasse. I'm trying to figure out if its the Mystery Wrasse or the Jawfish. The Mystery Wrasse been in the tank with others fishes for over a year without any losses.

I doubt it. Jawfish will show some aggression if other fish gets close To it’s cave but will not go on a killing spree.

How long have you had the anthias?
Have you tested your water lately?

are you sure the jawfish isn't carrying something like velvet perhaps?

Yes, the Jawfish does not have velvet. Looking at the golden rhomboid last night he looks beat up badly. He showed aggression when any fishes swims by his caves.

I found this post -

"How long have you had him? BSJ are very prone to "BSJ Disease" - Google it. The only way I've found to beat it is to treat with Kanaplex & Metroplex in a QT. Add a little sand to at least 1/2 the QT to make him feel more comfortable in there. "

I don’t think he have BSJ diseas e. He looks normal no missing spots and rotting of the tail. I’m trying to find out who is doing the killing of the fishes. There’s no sign of any illness on the other fishes. They looks like they got beating out by someone in the tank. Two fish that I can think of is the mystery wrasse or the jawfish. Like I stated all others tang, Bartlett and wrasses been together a year or over. The only new fish is the Jawfish about 2 weeks ago.

So you didn't qt him first? Your very brave, looks like you have some very nice wrasse in the tank. If I had to wager a guess Id say it was your new fish.

Yeah that’s definitely a gamble to add a new fish directly to the display tank regardless of where it was purchased. It’s a huge risk could wipe the whole tank.

I guarantee it’s your wrasse. Jawfish do not chase fish around aquarium, just defend their little home. It doesn’t matter how long fish have been together, all it takes is something to trigger their aggression, in this case adding the jawfish and the holes it created probably triggered it for whatever reason
