if you dont mind paying alot you could order from one of those seahorse websites that have their horses eating frozen food. I cant remember the site, i just know they are expensive.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for something I could keep in the 2.3G chamber if the seahorse doesn't work out. I want it to be something cool that could not live with the rest of the tank inhabitants......hey, could a Mantis live in a 2.3G chamber?

yes as long as its not a peacock/clown mantis. they need a 20L min. all other manits stay fairly small. the ones most people get with TBS rock are good for nanos.

Well, it will either be a seahorse chamber or a mantis chamber......I will probably start it off as a Mantis chamber since they are cheaper and easier to keep. If I decide I want to put the time into seahorses I can easily change it.

Are there any really cool mantis shrimp you can buy for a decent price that don't get too big?

It says that a tank depth of 15-18inches is best the zulus for egg swapping, when you get a bit further into it, it also says that they spend nearly all their time on the bottom. But on the front they state a minimum of 12in. My guess would be if you wanted to try it, they might be fine in your tank, but very, very, unlikely to breed.

basically most species of mantis except the one i mentioned earlier stay small. they max out around 3-4". I have seen some at Fish Ranch that were about $30. I like the red ones. I think Donnie had one he sold on here and it would be good for your tank. check TBS site and see what they have. their color will vary with lighting and enviroment. Mine went from dark green to a yellow, green, and blue.

best thing for the mantis tan is a piece of 1" pvc under the sand and alot of LR. espcially if you have a few pieces quater size. it needs small pieces to make the door.

I think you'r right Puma, but he did show us the tank during the tank tour. It looks good. Can't wait to see it when it's set up. :)

He had actually just got the tank from Nick this weekend. He was in the process of gluing rock to the back walls of it, like his 150g. It was a very sweet looking setup. I can't wait to see it up and running.

Ok, so after about 5 months I finally got a chance to set this thing up (wife and kids were out of town for a week) Here are some pics:

First, a couple of shots of the empty tank (this fine handywork is by Nick's Acrylic Reef)

And here it is all set up, complete with Boudster's rock wall background (TM) :)

View from top (as you can see, the lighting is still in progress)

I am using a Maxijet 400 and 1200 as my water circulation (they sit in the back chambers and flow into the fuge and main reef chamber. For lighting I am running 3 24" t5s using a Workhorse 7 ballast...and for the fuge I am currently using a Home Depot Special....but I have a mini-pc light I will hook up once I get a hood built.

So what do you think? I'll post pics of the corals below....I haven't added any fish yet.
