I am wanting to break up a few of my Zoanthid colonies. I can't Break the rocks that they are on. Can anyone tell me how to safely get them off the rock and onto another rock or plug?

First things first

Do not attempt to frag zoanthids without eye protection and latex gloves. Zoanthids are posionous and can cause very bad eye irritaiton, blindness, even can put you in the hospital. You do not want to get their paly toxins in open wounds on your hands.

Assuming all that is ok, get a tweesers and a razor blade, use the tweezers to pull up the matt and use the razor to help separate the matt from the rock. If you have a sharp chisel the same can be used instead of the razor blade. It is imperative to get the matt up to create a good frag.

Be careful!

Newb but I have had to frag a couple of zoas as of late cause the rocks they were on fell apart.

What I did....

-Cut in between polyps by spreading them apart to keep from cutting into the polyp.
-disposable bowls come in handy.
-loc-tite gel super glue works wonders and I ghold the zoa in place for a few seconds and put them into one of the bowls where the water will make the super glue form a skin.
-wash hands, arms and then face with soap and warm water afterwards just in case.
-"swoosh" frag in bolw of water to get the gunk they release.
