Came home around 9:00pm to a snowstorm in my tank. Was really perplexed to the cause of the snowstorm event..Finally realized big time screwed up. I drip limewater to my tank as top off water. Well today, instead of limewater, I dripped one gallon of baking powder mixture I used for water buffering. Who the hell keeps limewater and buffering mixture in two same color milk jugs! I did a 30g water change and hoping for the best. My Zoas do not look like they will survive. All of my Arcos' polyps are receded, plus they have this white film like substance all over them. I'm using a toothbrush to brush this white substance of the corals and rocks. I dont know what my ph or alkalinity levels are at the moment, will have to run to lfs tomorrow for test kits. I'm feeling really sick and stupid at the moment, cant believe I just did what I did. Will let you guys know how this turns out tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer Chuck..I have most of the corals in my sump, but if thing doesn't' turn out for the better, I will take you up on the offer. Just waiting for LFS to open so I can get some test kits. Man, 10:30am seems liike forever. Any good excuse you have that I can give my boss for not coming in to work today? :)

Take some water with you and let them test it as well for you, two tests are better than one and they might use a different brand so if the difference is not much then at least you know both are correct.

Wish I seen your post before I left for the LFS. Bought two API tes kits.
Came home and was ready to test my water, turned out the ph test kit was for freshwater. . Decided to proceed ahead with the tests..
Alk 11-12
PH unregister because it only goes to 7.6

Corals left in the main tank are 3" blue tort, 2" red planet, 2" joe the coral, 4"florida and bali slimers, and 2" bali arco. These are glued to my rocks which are impossible to remove without tearing the whole tank down. I'm seeing possible RTN on my blue and bali arco. I'm thinking of fragging them just in case. I told my boss of my predicament; dude laughed at me and told me to come on in to work.
Suggestion and advice are welcome..TIA.

Cut them off, it's better to loose a bit and not the whole colony and take them to Chuck or anyone close to you or setup a bucket with saltwater, heater and a pump if you have one and put the frags in there. But if your boss said get to work i'd get to work. You should have called in sick (fake cough)

sorry to hear about the incident. It'd be helpful if you have some pre-mixed saltwater laying around (that's why I always keep some in my garage just in case like this). Hope you get the tank parameters (pH, dKh) back to normal now? in fact temporary spike of dKh of 11 or 12 or higher pH shouldn't be too detrimental if you can make the water change soon. let me know if you need help.

Thanks for the offering of help. I think the damage was done yesterday when I was at work. Lost all the zoas, a few sps, and a good size orange monti cap(it just turned completely white), but everything else survived just fine. I did a 10g water change this morning and a 10g earlier this evening. My dKh is now 9-10 which is what I keep my level at. Still cant measure pH. My main problem is the snow like white substance on my rocks. Any suggestion as to how to get rid of it?

just use a turkey baster to blast them off the rocks.
you should stock some good and reliable test kits at home - my favorite brand is Salifert, but i also heard good thing on the Elos and tropic marine. Don't use the Red Sea brand (junks!) or some of those cheap ones in Petsmart since they are not reliable and hard to detect the color changes.
