Can I go topless? (1 Viewer)

Ok so I know I can go topless on a bio cube....wait that wasn't what you thought I meant? Get your mind out of the gutter! I took the top off of my bio cube and have a maxspec hanging over the top, my question is can I take the black rim off? I thought I had seen one of these where it was done but I am just not sure how to go about doing it without cracking my glass.

I've seen it done, looks good....but you might run into some issues. I'd do a euro brace if I was gonna do it.

Yea I ended up taking it off and took a little chunk out of the top of the back glass. No real issue, its in the back and you cant see it. Now the silicon is a little difficult to get off.

Is the bio cube glass or acrylic?

If glass, very very sharp razor blade and lots of patients. I de rimmed a ten gallon and used windex as my "lubricating media"

Yea its glass, I am picking up a pack of razor blades today. Just havent had a lot of time to work on it.

hey Dayton..its lee.. can you tell me what kind of anemone that is that you had in the 180...you kept.. it was a pink and purple color if I remember correct... I have two BC29's topless and rimless... I found it easier to get in and out of my tank.

Does the scale buildup quicker with the tank being topless now? I would think that you would be constantly having to clean up salt stains on the rim...

Yes and no, its really not much of an issue. I just wipe it down every couple days.
