I just put in my carpet anemone. That thing was sticking like crazy to my fingers. looking at it now I see little white strings in certain places. Is that from when it was stuck to my fingers or is that a bad sign? Thanks

Did you pull it off your fingers? Mine stuck and I just moved him to a rock which he attached too and left my fingers. As long as you don't rip anything bad, he should be fine and heal any little tears.

I dont think I pulled him off, I tried to use one hand and move my fingers around until it just kinda fell off, but it was not easy. The white strings are coming from the green sticky parts. I will take a picture.

Yeah he is fine. That is more than likely his slime coat.

What lighting do you have?? What are you planning to feed him???

Well for lighting I have pretty old VHOs, 4 110W( 1 aquasun, 1 actinic white, 2 blue actinics) and 2 250W 14K MH's that are new. I am glad to see that it will be alright. It is starting to burrow in the sand now.

Here is my whole tank. Looks alot darker on camera. It is really bright as hell. I dont think a flash would help.

MAN! That is a CLEAN TANK! What kinda' cleanup crew do you have?

AS for the food, I "spot fed" mine with brine and mysis shrimp, some Daphnia and whatever else I was giving the tank about 2 weeks.

Looks GREAT!

I just have those snails that you can get on ebay. I dont have a clean up crew. The reason it is so clean is I used a razor blade on it yesterday.

Carpets usually need more meaty foods, like smelt and silversides as well.

I am not sure how long VHOs are good for, but I know PCs only last for 6 months before needing replacement. Carpets require a lot of good lighting as well as good water flow. Like any other anemone, if they aren't happy where they are, they WILL move to a better spot. Make sure that your intakes for all your power heads and pumps are covered, if they aren't already. Oh yeah, if you have any gobies or bottom dwellers, don't be surprised if some of them come up missing.

I have a question for an anemone expert. If the mouth is open and I can see down in there, does that mean I need to keep feeding it until its mouth is closed? Thanks

You can see down in there?? What exactly seeing??

When feeding anemone, they will eat until they do not want anymore. Meaning, the food will stick to it when it wants to eat. If it lets the food pieces go or the food doesn't stick, that means it doesn't want anymore food.

Well usually its mouth is closed, but tonight it keeps opening up where I can see inside. Just thought that meant it was hungry. I will try feeding it again and see. Thanks

You probably don't need to feed it. The most you will need to feed it is 3 times a week. Anything more than that will be overfeeding it. It might be getting ready to expel the larger pieces it didn't digest.

Let it be for the night.
