I just received our city water disclosure and they use chloramines. I thought I have read somewhere that the regular carbon in my rodi does not filter out chloramines, only chlorine. That being said I have been just using the regular chlorine carbon filters in my rodi and havent had any issues. Anyone see a reason to buy the more expensive chloramine removing carbon filters for the rodi or is it marketing bunk?

I know Russ at Buckeye does stress using the better filters. I did read an article from a while back when they were getting ready to start using it down in one of the smaller cities down southeast, and the article did stress that people that had fish tanks should take extra precautions to filter the water before using it. I figure it is not worth the risk, so my RO/DI does have the chloramine filter.

I know one thing with chloramine is that it will not evaporate over time like chlorine will. It stays in the water. Can't speak to the efficacy of a normal carbon filter on it though.

This just happened in Port Arthur where we get our water from. As I understand it the regular carbon won't stop the Chloramines from reaching the RO membrane and causing it to fail early by burning holes in it. Or something to that effect.
