Hey, my lights just came on and I found my clam over on its side looking really bad. Can anybody tell me what is going on? Is my clam dying? Should I pull it out of the tank? The other day I noticed it had fallen over on its side and there was a white thing poking out of the bottom of the clam. I am guessing that it was its foot? It moved around a bit before retracting into the shell again. I don't know it that helps at all. I just don't want to risk the other inhabitants of the tank. Help please.

Pictures I took just now.

Yepper, looks to be.

I just had one go on me yesterday. I had it for 4 years, a Teardrop. Not sure why and I lost my Foxface of 3 years also. the clam has been not looking good for a few days. The Foxface was doing great that morning, came home a few hours later and he was doing bad.

Here he is about an hour before he passed. All other fish were fine, eating and moving about. All parameters were good, he was fat and healthy.

Well my clam kicked the bucket tonight. I really have no idea what could have caused it. I check parameters tonight and everything was within spec. Maybe I should have been feeding? I thought that the light would be enough but, now that I think about it, I probably should have fed it. I guess that is what I get for buying something, not doing research, and then assuming it would do fine in my tank. It really did decline quickly though. It was fine last night. :?

landfish

In my experience once the mantel has detached from the shell the clam is not going to make it.

Look for the clam eating snails and there are also clam eating flat worms that are harder to find and almost impossible to find and catch. If you do a search you will find some pic if them as I know there are a few post about them.

Sorry to hear about your clam

I had a couple clams a few months back do that... not 100% sure what caused it but I did find some of the paramid snails... but really not very many I cant see how just a few would kill it...

Mark, i had the same thing happen wiht my foxface except he was only 2 or so years old... fine and eating one day the next.. gone.
